Pongal is a festival when the natives of Tamil Nadu, in particular the farmer community, celebrate the Sun God and the farm animals. In Tamil Nadu, Pongal is celebrated with great pomp and show for 4 days. On Thai Pongal day, the entire family wakes up early in the morning take bath, wear new clothes and congregate in the courtyard to cook the customary Pongal (rice pudding). The eldest member of the family does the cooking of Pongal who is aided by the
other members. When milk begins to trickles from the pot, everybody shouts "Pongalo Pongal". This very moment signifies a promising sign. Some of the cooked meal is then put aside as a sign of thanks giving to the sun, nature and farmers. Later the left food is shared among the family, friends and neighbors.
Although the above scenario principally takes place in Tamil Nadu but the greetings of Pongal is exchanged by everybody regardless of their religion and region.
This is best done when a family comes together to celebrate Pongal over dinner /lunch. Besides, keeping pace with the modern technology, people now a days also sent Pongal Cards, Pongal e-cards and Pongal greeting cards to their family and friends.
Some of the messages that you can forward to your kiths and kin can be:

"Pongal is here, an occasion that marks joy and cheer, and brings along everything that's best. May the festival of the harvest season, be one that brings along with it, all that's best and everything you're so deserving of. Have a memorable Pongal."
